Summer memories

Nothing says "Regatta" like a bristol board sign
This is a bit of a cheap post as I am basically just pilfering pics from my brother-in-law Derek. But, still, it’s Monday, I’m feeling a bit tired, and I happen to have spent a lovely night with my family in the country for my sister-in-law Kim’s birthday, hearing all about their weekend… so, you know… bug off.
Anyhow, this weekend in the country was the Boat Club Regatta… an annual Summer event that I remember very well from my childhood… not because I won anything, but because it was always so much fun and there was a dance after. As a side note story: we were once doing a window for the store and Sally wanted some trophies so I called my Mom and asked her to put aside the trophies from Regatta. And she said “Oh, honey… you never won any trophies at Regatta” and I said “Of course I didn’t. But a few years ago we broke into the Boat club and stole some of those cheap ones they give out for participation, so just put those ones aside for me“. The point of that was, well, I’ve never been the ‘sportiest’ of people… but that’s ok, because I have a lot of other good qualities… or so my Mom tells me… Also, I don’t condone theft or breaking and entering… I think the door to the club house was unlocked and we left $10. Ok, maybe we didn’t leave $10, but I will next time I am at the Boat Club, ok?
Anyhow, here’s where this post becomes cheap… I actually wasn’t AT Regatta this weekend, even though my nephews and niece (and sister and brother-in-law) participated… as did a large portion of my best friends and their kids. Why wasn’t I there? Because I was busy rocking out at Eminem with Sally and on Saturday we decided that we had to try and drink ALL OF THE SAKE IN MONTREAL… I could have won a trophy for that, Mom, although I’m guessing you wouldn’t be all that proud of me.
I had a fantastic weekend with Sal, and while I loved hearing about Regatta from my nephews and niece and my sister, at the end of the day, I don’t have kids myself, so hanging around getting competitive on behalf of your sister’s kids is kind of weird. But I am still grateful that I get to see some of these quintessential “Summer’ shots of Derek’s, and re-live Regattas of my youth… because honestly, what a fantastic time of life… childhood… even without any of the trophies.

FANTASTIC shots Marnie (okay Derek!) – seems like Jacob has lost his hair since I last saw him! Must be his “school” haircut! Heard the cheering from the golf-club – my nieces and nephews are all grown up now so I am waiting for my great-nephew to be old enough to cheer him on!
Haha! Yes, it’s Jacob’s annual ‘mohawk’ cut… no more shaggy blond curls… which is a shame because I loved his hair like that, but, you know, I can see why he might want to look less like an angelic boy and more like a kick-ass kid!
