Weekend wardrobe

September 16, 2011

Ok… here are a couple of wardrobe conundrums for you to ponder. I realize it is a little late to actually get feedback, but still, worth throwing it out there for future reference.

I have a birthday party tonight that is outdoors. I imagine there will be heaters there but honestly, who could have planned that it would be going down to 4 degrees in the middle of September, so it’s better to be prepared with some layers I think. Anyhow, given the chill factor, I assume that most women’s plans of wearing a cute little dress (which wouldn’t be my plan, because I’m not really a cute little dress chick…) will be thwarted. That almost works in my favour as the guests at this party, as a whole, will be pretty, stylish and tiny. So, I won’t look so out of place wearing what I normally would given that they will also have to be dressed for the weather. Or at least I hope so, but let’s be frank. Tiny, pretty, stylish people are often people who can somehow effortlessly endure chilly temperature in clothes that might not be suitable and still look totally normal and relaxed.

So, here are the options.

Free People pleated skirt, which has some colour, a black Ca Va de Soi turtleneck, Sam Edelman heels (I would have to wear tights I think…) and a scarf.  Probably not this one, but I literally have a gajillion scarves at home and none of the ones we have in the store really work so I chose this one because at least it’s not black!

I know, I know… another amazing ‘Marnie’ picture, but I had to at least try and get the texture of this lace Joes shirt in, otherwise you would all be like “Great.  A black on black on black outfit.  Really taking some risks there, Marn”.  Of course, even with the lace, it’s not the riskiest outfit ever, but I figure I would probably throw on quite a bit of jewelry.  Every season, I get a new Ca Va de Soi black cardigan because they are THE best, and I literally wear it every other day for about 6 months, so this is the newest one for this season.  I’m sticking with high waisted black jeans (these are Joes) and I am dying to wear these Dolce Vita ‘biker’ boots, so this seems like a good time, given the fact that there might be grass, and, well, me + heels + grass + alcohol = disaster waiting to happen.

So.  There you have it.  I admit that even as I write this, I am leaning towards the all black outfit because of that whole ‘heel’ thing I just reminded myself about, and the first outfit requires heels.  But hey.  You never know.  I may get home and try all this stuff on and end up in something completely different and crazy!  No.  No I won’t.  But still, sometimes it’s fun to think that maybe I will, if only to try it all on and realize that I am just more comfortable and feel my best in simple things.  And when surrounded by pretty, stylish people, I think it’s best to go with what makes you feel good, as opposed to something that may make a bigger statement.  Who’s with me??
