I guess I’m going to have to be ‘that’ blogger…
I’m sorry Ginnifer Goodwin, but if your Manager, or Agent or “Peeps” aren’t going to do this for you, at least I can.
You are, by all measures of beauty, pretty gorgeous. Take a look at some photos of Ginnifer and try and disagree with me… With hair… without hair…

Really, really pretty, riiiight?
And so, imagine my and my friend Liz’s confusion when we watched the movie ‘Something Borrowed’ on Saturday night. Look, I’m not going to defend this movie as a great piece of cinematic genius. It’s typical rom-com… nothing new there, and frankly, not that good a movie no matter how you slice it. Having said that, it was watchable. Except for one small issue that both Liz and I had. WHAT THE F*&K IS UP WITH GG’s HAIR? Our theory was that she must have just recently taken the bold step of cutting off all of her hair, and for some reason, this character needed to have long hair. But here’s my issue: are you trying to tell me that THESE are the best wigs that you can get for a big budget movie? Really?
Exhibit A:

You know what? GG’s hair is not even THAT bad here… but you immediately know it’s a wig… right? You can see it? Because I can. You can be damn sure that Kate Hudson’t people would not let this pass.
Exhibit B:

See how GIANT it makes her head look? On top? It’s like completely disproportionate to the size of her head and face. It just looks silly.
Exhibit C:

The ‘curly’ wig. Terrible. I don’t even know what to say about it. Anytime she appeared with one of several slightly different ‘curly’ wigs, either Liz or I would immediately start ranting about how terrible it looked. There’s something about the ‘curls’ that are SO fake… maybe this is not the best image. Let me try and find another one.
Exhibit D:

HERE! Look at it. It’s like curly but with flat bangs and top… I don’t know. It’s just SO bad.
Exhibit E:

The piece de resistance. The point at which Liz burst out laughing and said “It’s like she’s wearing a bad disguise!!!??? Is she on a stakeout? Is she going incognito? WTF is going on here???”
Exhibit F:

A more candid shot on set, before filming. Look at it. It’s like a GLOBE of hair.
At what point did her team just say “Well, it’s too late now. If we mention it, we will have to go back and re-shoot and we just can’t do that. Let it go.”
And to her credit, I feel like GG probably at some point went “Hey, Hair Stylist, is it just me or does this wig seem a bit… I don’t know… bad to you? I mean, I don’t want to cause any problems. I guess it’s not that bad, right? It’s probably just because I’m used to having really short hair now, so I’m a bit shocked by it, and it just looks fake to me, right? Guys? Manager? Agent? What do you think?“
Manager and Agent and Hair Stylist “Oh my God!! GG! You’re so crazy!! It looks AH.MAZ.ING. Even this morning, Kate was saying how she wished she was playing your character because your hair looks SO good!!!”
GG “Oh. Ok. Cool. I just wanted to make sure. I know. I’m being a crazy self-involved star! Sorry guys! No worries. It’s awesome. I love it.”
Exhibit G:
I’m going to ask you to watch this for a couple of reasons. First, because it’s one of the only places you see the wig in a ponytail, and I feel you need to see it ‘in action’ to get the full effect of how bad it is. And secondly, because this is just one of those cringe-worthy moments on film that you think “Wow. I’m kind of embarrassed for them right now. But Kate’s really got some moves. Oh God. No. They’re not doing that backward swing walk thing… Ooooooh! They did it! I’m covering my eyes!“
You will understand what I mean when you watch it.
So, the point of this? None, really. And like I said, I think GG is gorgeous. And cute. And totally likable. I just wish she had fought for better hair here. You deserve it! Never again, GG. Never. Again.
Case closed.

Seriously- it was SO bad!! But on the bright side, it was probably the funniest thing in the movie so…that’s something!
How are no other bloggers talking about this? Has anyone even seen this movie? (Hmm…maybe not…)
Wow. This is actually kind of infuriating. I friggin love GG ( Ps lovin’ the abbrev) and the fact that they put this Jackie O -plus-4 inches-minus -the-awesome-wig seems genuinely cruel. Maybe Kate thought her costar was looking a little toooo good. Jus sayin’, it happens!
And for the record, the backward swing thing is in fact called the Roger Rabbit and is a move I pull out at all possible social events ( Reminder: holly is single) as is the tick tock which is the dance move that directly follows, which they adequately execute. Now if it was Katie and holly doing this little number… Magic..
Holly, I have SO much to learn from you. And I’m afraid that you have just signed you and Katie up to do a dance number (preferably THIS one) at our Lola & Emily Holiday dinner. Awesome.
I certainly walked right into that one now didn’t I.. Challenge accepted.
Long time reader, first time commentator… Holy Crap! Get out of my head!! I was subjected to this movie on a plane yesterday, and full disclosure: the altitude and the couple of hefty drinks “to help me relax” (as my travel partner rolls his eyes…) may have unleashed a few too many giggles (but I kind of enjoyed K.H. being a total creep) for the crap factor of this thing, but when it came to GG’s hair, I was slack jawed and appalled – it was no laughing matter. I’m totally with you on this one – it was a disgrace to the “usually-supporting-female-getting-her-first-starring-role” – it’s like the team behind this mule needed to dumb-it-down so the whole experience wouldn’t go to GG’s HUGE-when-wigged head… Shame shame shame.
Justine, I’m SO happy that you decided to comment, because I was starting to think that perhaps Liz and I are just hyper-critical. I do admit that I didn’t DESPISE this movie… Having said that, it is apparently based on some books, and there is another one called Something Blue that might come out depending on whether this one did well. I hope it doesn’t. Or maybe I hope it does??? It’s hard to be sure, because I sometimes take as much pleasure in ‘hating’ something and then ranting about it as I do in simply loving something. I guess that’s not the best thing to admit about myself, but hey… self-awareness is key. I feel we are clearly sympatico in our views, so please comment more often!!
Will do! And a word of caution, or invitation??? – Borrowed ended with a clip of K.H. running after the charmingly lackadaisical John Krasinski (am I alone in kinda loving this guy? The scene of him going down on Maya Rudolph in Away We Go?… anyway), through the streets of London – it was after the credits, but I was still starring at the tiny screen, half comatose… Perhaps we’ll be awarded more opportunity for self-understanding and mouth-vomiting…
P.s. I think cleverly commenting on something you “hate” is one of the best things ever!
